At LMHS, we use a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to help provide academic, behavioral, and social-emotional strategies to our students with varying needs. There are three tiers of support:
Tier 1 is our universal foundation at Lloyd, and includes all core instruction, classroom strategies, and basic interventions. We use Positive Action curriculum for Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), we utilize Kagan structures for student engagement, PBIS positive rewards for all students, "House" time to learn about goal setting, time management, and college/career planning, and other various universal strategies for all students at Lloyd. We also have built-in intervention time monthly for all students who are failing any classes or who need extra help or enrichment.
Tier 2 provides additional supports to approximately 10-15% of our student population. This could include, but is not limited to, weekly small groups with counselors or therapists (Lloyd Learner Groups), mentoring, Extended School Services, referral to therapists, academic or behavioral interventions, attendance meetings and contracts, referral to the Youth Service Center, and Check In/Check Out. This targeted support allows students to work toward catching up with their peers.
Tier 3 is our individualized, more intense, targeted intervention strategies for less than 10% of our population. This tier is for students who have significant challenges and could benefit from the help of outside agencies or behavioral counselors and family therapists.
Our MTSS team works to find the best intervention for each student's situation and needs. If you feel like your child could benefit from MTSS services, please fill out this form for consideration. We look forward to working together to help best meet the needs of your child.
